Crawlspace Linings
The company I used to work for was once called on the carpet for using the phrase “Crawlspace Encapsulation.” It seems the gentleman making that call insist he originally coined the phrase. So, needless to say, my ex-boss did the right thing and yielded. So, from this point on, I will refer to this “crawlspace encapsulation System” as a “crawlspace liner system.”
That being said, here’s my take on this revolutionary crawlspace liner system.
Crawlspaces are trouble areas; and left unattended are notorious for moisture, mildew, mold, and other nasty organisms. The ultimate solution for solving all these problems and more is a crawlspace lining system like the one that Basement Systems has developed. This system (and others) simply addresses all the negative issues that evolve around crawlspaces. Properly installed, this system provides sufficient venting for moisture and radon buildup under the liner.
The EPA says that the average home in America goes through between 1 to 1 1/2 air changes per hour. Most of this “makeup air” comes from the lowest levels of your home. In most cases this lower level is either the basement, crawlspace, or both. As the air in the home warms, it becomes lighter and begins to rise. This is referred to as the “stack effect.” This is where all the air in the lower level migrates upward as it warms. If you have an untreated crawlspace, the odds of this air containing mold , moisture, and other bacteria increase greatly.
This crawlspace liner consist of an r rated wall covering as well as a flooring system. All the components of this system are taped together with a super tape that could hold a house together. Well not really but, this is some tough tape. I had this system installed in my crawlspace and after it was installed, I forgot to plug in the sump pump. As luck would have it, we had 4″ of rain that night. Yes, my crawlspace flooded, but after I pumped the water out, not one seam came undone.
